Chocolate Smoothie with chia and maca, seriously yummy and good for you too.



This great tasting smoothie was developed to sustain my energy throughout the morning. With nutritionally dense chia seeds and maca root, it will fuel your body for several hours. As a bonus, maca root has been shown to regulate, support and balance hormones in both men and women. Chia is chock full of vitamins (A, B, E and D) and minerals (calcium, magnesium and zinc), omega-3s, protein and fiber. 

The flavors of the ginger, cinnamon, cacao, and vanilla create a complex twist on basic chocolate. All of the ingredients fuse together to create a delicious, high-protein treat without any protein powders (16 grams).

Ultimate Chocolate Smoothie 

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup coconut water
  • 4 tablespoons mila (chia)
  • 1 can coconut milk
  • 1 ripe banana (frozen works well too)
  • ½ avocado
  • 2 tablespoons almond butter, cashew butter or sunbutter
  • 2 tablespoons raw honey
  • 2 tablespoons raw cacao
  • 1 teaspoon maca root
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 inch fresh ginger (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Ice 
Directions:

First soak Mila in coconut water (to enhance bio-availability and hydrate the lower GI). Place all ingredients in blender and blend on high until smooth. Add ice and blend a few more seconds. Serves two. Freeze half in a lidless mason jar for an easy grab-and-go meal or snack later in the week.
